This is the submission of The Bigg for the BWL contest 'The Shade Lord'. I received some help by ggiB ehT - since his parts could be potentially offensive, they're hidden in near-black. Who went to face the Shade Lord?
Answer: Aerie and Minsc went, while Imoen, Jaheira and CHARNAME remained in the Umar Hills.
Reason: First of all, it matches with what we know. As for an in-game reason:
    Minsc was having his manly needs again, and the stiffness of his stick was distracting him in battle. He asked his witch for counsel. Aerie, upon seeing the size of the problem, told him that she knew a cure, but they had to practice it away from other people who could see that, she added. As such, they decided to go attack the Shade Lord, meanwhile.
    CHARNAME and Jaheira would then remain in the Umar Hills, according to the specific request of Aerie. Imoen, as usual, couldn't decide which of the two couples she should be bothering. She decided to enter her inn room to think upon that, but instead entered by mistake in her brother's room, where he was practicing some complex sex position with Jaheira. They ended up doing a threesome and Imoen made up her mind this way.

... she was none less than Dynaheir! Upoing seeing the wizardress, Aerie took Minsc by hand, frightened, and he replied by hugging her.
    "So we have come to that, Minsc?", Dynaheir asked. "You have abandoned me to die in Irenicus' dungeon, and now you turned to protecting an elf?"
    "This cannot be! You turned to the evil side? Oh Boo, please tell me that there is a trick here, or it'd be too much of a shame to mee to have let her die and become evil, and I'd be very sad to have to kick her butt for goodness!", the big ranger shouted.
    "So... This is the Dynaheir you have talked me about? Why did you protect somebody so evil as to resurrect the Shade Lord and attack Umar?"
    "I am not evil!", Dynaheir interrupted. "When I had been killed by Irenicus, he cast on me a most foul curse: I would forever live as an undead, and he cast on me a Geas to kill innocent people, unless Minsc was able to find me again, to give me a parting kiss."
    "That... that can't be allowed! If what you say is true, Irenicus will have to pay for this too! So much of his butt will be kicked that he won't be able to sit down anymore! But... what do you mean, Boo? Why should I kiss Dynaheir? Surely Aerie would think I am cheating on her."
    "Please, Minsc, kiss her and end all this suffering."
    "If you promise you won't get mad at me, I'll do what you suggest, Aerie. And what suggests Boo."
    Minsc sheated his blade, while Aerie holded her holy symbol in her hand, since the shades were closing in on her again. Minsc then walked up to Dynaheir, grabbed her in his arms and lowered her head to Dynaheir's height, and finally met her lips with his. After what seemed like an eternal second, Dynaheir slowly backed away from Minsc. "Thanks, now I am free to go away from here.", she uttered, and then she passed out on the ground.
    Minsc began fading away, becoming almost ethereal, until he was just a shadow, and Dynaheir got back on her feet, by the side of the Shade Lord, who had crept back in the room. His mad laughter was matched by Dynaheir and Minsc's echo. "Haha, so now you have been able to recruit a new cultist, sweet Dynaheir!", the beast hissed. "Now you'll join our ranks too, poor Aerie."
    "No, NEVER!" she yelled. She quickly muttered a spell of protection, just before the shadows were able to attack and interrupt her. Minsc had become a shadow too, thanks to Dynaheir's lethal kiss, and turned on Aerie too. Thanks to the small window of safety granted by her spell, Aerie was able to extract her holy symbol, and turned undead. The sight of Minsc being cheated to become evil had imbued her with enough inner strength and faith to succesfully destroy all the shadows. Dynaheir turned to a rotten corpse, and so did most of the other shadows. Minsc turned back to human too - dead himself. But Umar was safe.
    Aerie decided to sleep in the temple, to be able to memorize a spell to resurrect Minsc alive, or, at worst, to have enough strength to be able to drag him to Umar Hills, where she would give his body the right treatment. Luckily the night was eventless, and Aerie was able to resurrect a stil scared Minsc. Fortunately, he had forgotten what had happened, and, rather than telling him that he had turned to an evil being, she decided to avoid him the grief of that tale, and told him that he had 'simply' died in battle.
    Despite him being still much weak, he still said with all the strength he could that evil will have to pay for having tried to turn him evil, and that Aerie will be recorded in all histories along with Minsc and Boo for her heroic battle and for having saved him. He then tried to embrace her, but strength failed him, draining Aerie on the ground, down on his body.
    The stick was as hard as before. Unfortunately, taking advantage of that now would have been fatal to Minsc. She began casting healing and strengthening spells on him, since she still remembered how beautiful was it to have the stick inside her, and she couldn't wait. >
